Beacon Box

May 2025

For this project, I was tasked with creating a design inspired by a literary element that is important to me. For the literary element, I chose the poem Wild Geese by Mary Oliver. This poem works as a reminder that we must be patient with ourselves and understand that the earth always has a place for us. My goal with this design was to create a useful and decorative item that carries natural motifs. A recent personal goal for myself has been to stay more organized, and to achieve that, creating a jewelry box for this project felt like an obvious choice. I wanted to create the jewelry box using only hand tools, as I wanted it to be visibly handmade and have an organic shape, to follow the concept of finding comfort in imperfection.
