4/23 Collection
This collection was created as a multi-month-long personal style development study.
I chose to use Mishima, a glaze technique that involves inlaying underglaze into clay to create intricate designs, on wheel-thrown cups, plates, and bowls because I felt it would be the easiest way to translate my sketch style onto ceramic pieces.
I started the making process by throwing a variety of pieces. In the end, I made around 20 usable pieces but decided to keep only my favorites. I narrowed it down to 15 pieces to begin the glazing process, but after breaking a few and messing up the glaze on a couple, I decided to only put 11 pieces through the final firing. While not all of these pieces are my favorite, this project was one of the most meaningful to me in terms of learning who I am as an artist. I finished all of the pieces in late April of 2023.
